People in the Salisbury area now have even greater access to one of the world’s leading supplementary education support systems.

Kip McGrath is a supplementary education provider that was established 30 years ago in Australia and now includes a worldwide network of over 680 franchises in 20 countries. Centres provide a broad and diverse spectrum of quality supplementary education programmes for pre-school children through to tertiary students.

There are now over six hundred such centres around the world. They are all run by qualified teachers who use the 'Insight' system to identify and then overcome any weaknesses in the student's maths or English skills. Insight is a computer based system that enables teachers to design very precise, individualised learning programmes for each child using a combination of computer activities, paper-based work, 1-1 tuition and homework to enable each child to make rapid progress.

Exam preparation groups support the work of the pupil's school and enable the child to 'brush up' their maths or English skills and exam technique within a supportive, small group study setting. These groups cater for students who are preparing for 11+, Common Entrance and G.C.S.E. exams.

We tutor students from K.S.1 through to G.C.S.E. in:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Spelling

Meet the Tutors

All of our tutors are qualified and experienced teachers:

Debbie Toulson, Centre OwnerDebbie Toulson

Hi, my name is Debbie Toulson and I am an ex-headteacher, with 17 years primary school experience. I set up the Kip McGrath Centre in Salisbury in September 2005. My particular area of expertise is mathematics.

Our decision to own a Kip McGrath Franchise developed out of a desire to maximise each child's true potential by supplementing the work done in the classroom.

Ensuring that children have good educational support can influence their view of themselves, their interest and motivation to be at school and can impact heavily on their future education success.

Dave Toulson, Centre OwnerDaveToulson

Hi, my name is Dave Toulson and I run the Salisbury Kip McGrath Centre with my wife Debbie.

I worked for 25 years as a secondary school teacher in Hampshire, teaching English,Drama and Design Technology.I enjoy helping students to realise their potential and make the most of their education. The frustrations of engaging a large group of students in a fully productive way in a school classroom are well documented.

Here at Kip McGrath I can spend the time with individuals and sort out any problems or misunderstandings at the time they occur. Our results and growth over the last ten years are things we are both very proud of.

Katharine Lay, TutorKatharine Lay

Hi, my name is Katharine Lay and I have taught children of all ages from 2-16. I have experience at many local primary schools. I have run music groups for pre-school children, taught EFL and have a particular interest in English.

I enjoy the freedom to design "child specific" programmes for the individual pupils and this has proved to be one of the real strengths of the Kip McGrath system.

The online aspect of the learning experience is something the children all respond very well to and the modern, up to date look and feel of the Centre does much to enhance the involvement of everyone who attends.

Aileen Chen, Tutor.Aileen Chen

Hi, my name is Aileen and I have taught children in both primary and secondary schools.

I love teaching, especially maths!
